I've held a concealed cary permit here in Indiana for several years. In that time I've managed to have a few "roadside rendevous" with our local law enforcement officials. My gun permit has been dealt with in every conceivable manner. I always try to present the permit to the officer when I hand him my driver's license and inform him that I do have a weapon in the vehicle. This has been greeted with everything from an "aw shucks, that's alright", to being asked to leave my hands on the steering wheel and up to having the officer ask for the weapon (butt first), unload it, hand the ammo back to me and keep the handgun until he was done with me. I have never been asked to leave the vehicle nor physically searched because of the gun permit. I might also add that I have a NRA Life Member decal in the rear window of my truck, so it's probably a pretty good tip off to the possibility of a weapon inside. Who know's, the sticker might actually act to calm the nerves of an officer who knows what we're really all about.
