I'm in complete agreement with your 'smith. The .223 is all you need out to 300 yds. on coyotes. You've spent top dollar for what sounds like a super rifle and I agree you've put a "sow's ear" on top. I'm a huge Leupold guy and feel you just can't go wrong there. A Leupold 6-18X would be about perfect. I cringe when I see guys pay big money for a rifle but top it off with a $39.95 bargain scope and expect it to shoot one hole groups. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link and the weak link in your rig is the scope. You'll be much more satisfied with your shooting with a good quality scope. As I said, I'm a Leupold guy but there are several other good scopes out there that would suit your needs much better. I'm sure the rest of the board's participants will give you some suggestions too. That 3-9X scope you've got isn't a dog but it's much more suited for other uses and calibers. Welcome!
