Scott, Here you go. This is in case you don't (yet) reload. DON'T PANIC, I'm talking less then $60 here total!!! Ya can't buy a .22 for that!

This is how I got started. Go to your local sporting goods store, and look for a LEE HAND LOADER. It is a set of dies specifically made for use in the field, on the coffee table, or anywhere you have a flat surface. They cost about $18.00. You have to specify for a .270.

Then buy:
1 pound can of IMR4064 POWDER. $17.00
100 LARGE RIFLE PRIMERS 1.09
100 .277 bullets (90, or 100 grain) 15.00
(Get what's cheap for starters}
1 can of BRASSO. (swiped mine from Ma)
1 Mallot (I used an oak 2x2 I scrounged from a
neighbor
1 flat piece of hardwood (same neighbor).

This will give you 5 boxes of .270 ammo, with enough powder left over for another 200 or so rounds. AND THE LEE LOADER.

That means your NEXT 200 rounds will cost about
$16.00 per hundred (just bullets and primers).

That comes to about $55 bucks total (give or take). With that rig, you can load BETTER then FACTORY ammo, at about 1/3 the cost. You can't even buy 90 grain factory loads that I have seen.

I got started shooting prairie dogs back in the early '80's with my kids, and before long, I had loaded over a thousand rounds with that same little rig. Did it watching TV with the kids.

You can get about 300 .270 loads from 1 can of powder, and later you can pick up some extra dips to experiment with different loads and bullet weights. The supplied powder measure with IMR4064, and 100 grain HP's barely kicks, and really smokes the varmints.

When (if) you finally graduate to a large loader toss your little LEE Loader to a friend with a .270. Then you will have a hunting buddie.
