You don't need all that bullet weight you're using. I use 150 grain bullets on elk in heavy brush ONLY. They recoil pretty hard even with my rifle. The rest of the time I use 130 grain boat tails on them. Bull elk can go 1000 pounds. I never had one get back up on me. I had one run 200 yards once with both lungs destroyed by a 130 grainer. He wasn't hard to follow. Left a blood trail a foot wide on both sides. The bullet didn't hit a rib, so it went right thru and didn't knock him off his feet. Shot him at about 60 yards, moving. He was dead when I caught up to him.
I hit a 285 pound mule deer at 150 yards last year with a 130 grainer, and knocked him right off his feet with a head shot. He never knew what hit him. It emptied his braincase. It went in behind his right ear, and the opposite side of his face was gone.
As to coyotes, with the .270 you are only range restricted by your skill. If you can hit him at 350 yards, you will kill him. I usually don't even attempt a coyote at that range myself, unless I have a rock steady hold and no wind. It would bother me to break his leg or something and have him run off to die slowly. With a ruger #1 you only get 1 shot.
