Michael: I first used a set of these in 1997 while hunting in the far North West Corner of Montana. This is incredibly mountainous country and I thought gee what a waste of space in my back pack. Was I ever wrong. These Motorolas were wonderful and talked around Mountains for miles in fact. We did not use them for benefitting our success on Game but for safety and convenience of us hunters. They were crystal clear and when the snow/fog moved in we were aided by their use several times. I understand that here in SW Montana during the 1998 hunting season some citations were issued for "hunting" with these radios. Another controversy in the making I guess. Even at that for the price and the safety and convenience these radios provide I will soon have 3 of them. The Model we used was the 5 mile range type. I just got my new Cabelas catalog today and the radios and accessories were in there.
