Here in Virginia there is no sunday hunting, either.
Not being born here (but here for the last 20 years.)
I don't know how long this has been the law. I think it's been for
a LONG time. I believe that it was originally designed so that
people would go to church instead of going out hunting on Sundays.
NOW I believe it is to give the Game Wardens a day off. There are
very few of them for the large areas they have to cover during the rest of the week.
In New York, at least Westchester County, ther is no sunday hunting
for PHEASANTS! No other game is singled out that I can remember.
I don't know why they are "special", either.
Recreational shooting is allow on Sundays. At my local club/range
we do not allow shooting on Sunday before 1:30pm.
This is because we are fairly close to a church and do not
with to disturb their Sunday services.
