Most people with cross dominace have worse uncorrected vision in the eye on their dominate side.
ie a right handed person who is 2/40 in right eye and 20/20 uncorrected in his left eye will generally be left eye dominate.
It is very easy to tell which eye is dominate just extend your arm out and quickly attempt to cover your view of a light switch or other distant object with your index finger.
Then without moving your finger close one eye the the other.
Which ever eye has its view of the light switch obstructed by your index finger is your dominate eye.
It will ususally be on the same side as your dominate hand.
If not it is usually because the uncorrected view from your eye on the same side as you dominate hand was less clear then the view from your other eye.
Before you force a child to shoot with his non dominate eye make sure he has adequate corection in that eye.
It will also often be much more difficult for a child to close volontarily close (wink) his dominate eye while he may easily be able to close his non dominate eye.
Yes dominate eye is more important with quick point shooting or shooting that uses both eyes open like shootguns and rapid hand gun shooting.
