This chip does not modify the "unvolatile" (permanent) memory of the regular ford ECM. It actually plugs in to the diagnostic port so the chip MUST be removed for a technician to interface with the ECM. If you are going in for service work and are worried about the warranty, just unplug the thing and toss it in the glove box till the service is done. I think the +80 horsepower and +210 foot-pounds of torque are worth it! You are right though, it would void the warranty if you are caught and there are some types of chips that permanently alter the ECM's characteristics. This one is not one of those though. Cheers!
