This happened about 35 years ago, (I was about 16) on the opening day of deer season in Ohio. My partner in crime and devilment and I walked out the back door of his house headed for our deer stand. Jim was carrying a single barrel Stevens in 12 guage Smooth bore. (This was before anyone rifled one) I had my dad's wingmaster. Back then all you could use was slugs.
When we walked out the back door, I saw 2 bucks on the far edge of the pasture. Jim said, "well lets just chase them back into the woods" (where our stand was). WELL.. He lifted that stevens up on about a 30 degree angle and touched her off in the direction of the bucks. I'll be damned if the big one didn't drop on the spot. I thought Jimmy had scared him to death. Anyway, we ran down there and found that #12 had taken the bucks lower jaw right off. By the time we got there, the buck had bled out and died, without ever knowing what hit him We paced it off, and it was 387 yards (give or take). As far as I know, Jimmy's still bragging on that one. Uses me for a witness too.
