I never did get 100 grainers shooting real well in my M70 .270.
Had good luck with Hornady 110 SPHP's though (I imagine the new plastic tips would be as good or better).
This was long before I owned a chronograph so I've no real idea of velocities but my two best loads with the Hornady 110 were a compressed load of 4831 and CCI250 (OLD lot of 4831 - like older than I am, NO IDEA how it would compare to a recently mfg'd batch!). The other which was just as good but more expensive was a full case (but not compressed) of IMR4350 and a CCI200. Since I had a couple coffee cans full of the 4831 which were given to me that is the load I used most often (and still to this day, I'll occasionally catch a whiff of powder smoke at the range and KNOW someone is burning old 4831!).
FWIW, while I do like Varget and use a lot of it in my .22-250's, I have found that some lot's of it give me the same kind of velocity extreme spreads that you are getting in your .270 - i.e. 300 fps. I havn't done a lot of solid testing to say with certainty but a few 10 shot strings over the chrony a while back indicated that switching to a magnum primer (Fed. 215M) helped the extreme spread with that particular batch of Varget quite a bit but still not as good as I'd like. I'm just glad the last 8# jug of Varget I recently bought isn't like that!
