I remember when I was a kid going squirrel and
rabbit hunting with another family. We saw a hawk up in a tree a LONG way off and someone told my dad to see if he could hit it( this was long before shooting hawks was illegal). I don't know how far the hawk was from us, but my dad shot and had already taken his 22 down from his shoulder and we all were shocked when the hawk came tumbling down from the tree. It was a lucky shot, but he did it just the same. Due to the amount of time between the shot and the reaction of the hawk, I believe that the shot was probably at least 400 yards.
Shooting 400-500 yards with a 22 is no harder to believe than killing a PD at 2600+ yards, is it?
I know people who think I'm full of it when I tell them I can knock down the 200 meter ram with a 44 mag, or the 500 meter ram with an open sighted rifle. They become believers real quick when I show them.
