If the stock warps it won't matter if the lug is fully bedded or not. This is not the reasoning behind not fully bedding the lug. Even a lot of 'smiths are not aware of why they should not fully bed the lug. Wood stocks should always be pillar bedded to minimize the degradation of bedding due to atmospheric changes. The pillars isolate the main pressure points from the effects of wood warpage although the effect can not be totally eliminated in a wood stock.
